The Importance of Sports For Toddlers

Sports for Toddlers: The attention span of a toddler is short to say the least, which can make learning a new sport challenging. When getting toddlers involved in kid’s sports it’s important to remember three things: basics, patience, and fun.

Enrolling in sports programs, like Soccajoeys, from an early age is a great for kids to learn the basics of physical fitness and athletics. Toddlers who are engaged in sports activities may not master specific skills such as stopping a ball with their feet or learning how to do a throw in, but they are building a foundation of skills that will benefit them in the long run. Things like coordination, teamwork and motor development can all be achieved from a young age. It’s also a great way to create healthy active lifestyle habits while building the foundation of skills they will use in later years.

The phrase “patience is a virtue” can definitely be applied when teaching toddlers sports activities. They have a tendency to be easily distracted and can lose interest quickly. That’s why instructions given in a brief, “show and tell” manner are best received by toddlers.

Most importantly any activity for a toddler should be fun. Sports activities are a great way for children to socialise and learn how to interact with their peers. Teamwork and cooperation are two of the greatest skills that toddlers can take away from sports.
