Soccer For Girls: A lot has changed over the years when it comes to young girls’ involvement in physical activity and sports. Every year more and more girls are trading in their dolls for trainers and boots. It’s no secret that regular physical activity is important to the development of a girl’s body, but there are so many additional benefits to girls who participate in sports.

According to the Women’s Sports Foundation, girls who play sports do better in school. Starting girls in sports programs early helps them to develop the skills they will use later in life. Exercise improves learning, memory and concentration, which can give healthy active girls a competitive edge when it comes time to enter the classroom.

Soccer for girls teaches important teamwork and goal-setting skills, even for preschool aged girls. Learning to be a team player helps girls to develop important cooperation and problem solving skills, which can translate off the field and into their everyday life. Playing sports also builds self-confidence in young girls. Soccajoeys coach Kelly sees it in every kids soccer program she runs, “when girls play soccer they feel better about themselves, physically, emotionally and socially.”

When girls participate in activities and athletics, the benefits are endless. Not only are they improving their health and physical fitness, they are improving self-esteem and learning important skills they’ll use throughout their childhood.
