School holidays are a great time to teach your child healthy lifestyle habits. With the down time allotted during the break, kids have plenty of time to get off the couch and get active. Here are Joey’s tips to help your kids stay active during the holiday period.
Set a goal each day for your kids – It can be easy to slip into a routine of watching movies and playing video games with a break from school, so it’s important to set goals for your child. Give them a task or activity to do every day. It can be anything from going for a hike to kicking the ball around to checking out a new pool. You can also let your child come up with the daily task. Sit down at the start of the holiday period and brainstorm some fun and healthy activities they might want to participate in.
Work on your child’s skills – Reinforce what your child has learned throughout the year. Keep practicing the many skills your child has learnt by doing the activities with them. Practice doing aeroplane stops, toe taps, dribbling and kangaroo jumps with your child. This will help your child improve and help them transition back into classes when the holiday break is over.
Be social – Try to tee up some healthy and active play dates during the holiday period. It will give your child something to look forward to, while getting them to participate in healthy activities.
